We’re happy to announce yet another Joost Labs project today: a version of Joost customized for running on the Sony PlayStation 3.
It makes it a lot easier to play Joost content on a PlayStation 3 by presenting a simplified interface that allows you to navigate content using the controller. It does not have full EPG navigation, but you can browse our Joost Picks and popular content, and also search for shows. NB: Note that this is a Joost Labs project, so your mileage might vary
We are, for example, aware of the playback occasionally not working.
To use it, go to the Network icon on your PlayStation, open the Internet Browser and press the Start button which will open the Address input field where you enter:
You can save time by bookmarking it using the Select button.
The keys on the controller have the following functions:
Basic:
- Up/Down: Vertically navigate through the menus
- Left/Right: Horizontally switch between the main menu, video list, and video info
- X: The only button you can use to select menu items
Advanced:
- Hold X down: Show the video controls
- X + Up: fullscreen
- X + Down: Pause
- X + Left/Right: Previous/Next show in the video list
- O: Exit fullscreen
As always we’re happy to hear about comments and suggestions.

This is awesome
Awesome!
Sick wit it Joost! I’m gonna peep that TONIGHT FO’ SHO’
But will it work on PSP?
Hope springs eternal.
Unfortunately no, as there is only Flash 6 support on the PSP

Good work! A quality/speed option would be nice. The search feature is better that what “that” other PS3 music streaming site provides!
I’m impressed: 8/10
Great job! Interface feels like it’s running directly on Game OS, and not in a browser.

Fail.
It might be alright if you wanna watch some random stuff, but before I tried the PS3 version, I went to the regular Joost site on my PC. Liked what I saw, found some nice categories that took me right to the shows I wanted. Then I took my PS3 browser to the PS3 version of the Joost site and there were no categories. The only stuff I could find were what Joost wanted me to find. The categories on the PC site were well organized. When I did a search on the PS3 site to get to a specific series, the episodes were in random order. Doing a general search for “anime” or “animation” netted me a bunch of garbage videos that were not TV shows of any kind.
Basically, you simplified it too much. You removed pretty much all of Joost’s features and left a few pathetic options that will serve only to frustrate someone looking for something specific

is the content region locked ?
Jumper Prime: Do note that it’s just the start of the project and also that it’s a Joost Labs project too
But we are well aware of the simplicity and miss the same functionality that you also miss. We’ll work on improving it continuously. Stay tuned.
Nick: Yep, the content availability depends on which region you are in. Just like our main website.
It’s great you have discovered how to take advantage of the PS3 browser and overcome the lack of buttons problem!

Trying it now - this is great! Fullscreen works well and I appreciate that the controls are optimised - the mouse pointer is inefficient generally so the choice to use only gamepad controls is much appreciated.
I’m bookmarking now, thanks !
Nice, even so cool on the PC as well :-). BTW how to simulate the ‘Advanced: controls’ on just a regular keyboard?

Rick: You cannot simulate the “Advanced” controls using keyboard commands on the PC, but you can do it with the mouse by holding down the mouse button for a while.

Got a memory problem while trying to search a video on the same time other video are playing..
=) any.. good work hope it get better and better.. =)
Jean: Yes, the Flash environment on the PS3 is quite constrained, so we often run into memory issues unfortunately. We’ll try to work around it the best we can.
Joost thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Firstly, thanks for adding support for the PS3. I stumbled across Joost originally back when it required a windows application to watch content. I lost interest because the only time I booted to windows was to play games (which I don’t do anymore now I have a PS3 ;P ). With the PS3 interface, I’m rediscovering the world of VoD.
While I agree that for console use, a simplified UI is much better than an entire webpage, especially when fonts are rendered tiny on an HD TV, I just want to echo the same sentiments that it’s a little too simple. If you could even at least bring across the ability to log in and play items queued either via the UI or from a PC, it would be a great enhancement.
Thanks, and keep up the great work
